Decorative Animal Accents

Animal accents bring the outdoors in.

And add an unexpected splash of interest. Very popular right now are leopard and zebra print rugs. Or go outside the box with a pattern that depicts antelope, cheetah, tiger or giraffe. Animal print rugs are especially effective in small spaces, such as stairways, powder rooms or foyers – and these small rooms are a good place to start if you’re feeling nervous about adding a large amount of animal accents to your home. And you can even buy animal print rugs in colors that aren’t realistic at all, such as a magenta and black striped zebra rug! Animal wall art includes: - the famous Audubon prints or similar etchings or block prints of birds and animals - photographs of animals that you take yourself or purchase - even a painted stencil border that shows birds in flight or animals walking. For sculptural animal art, think a decorative bird cage, that can be empty, filled with plants or even housing a live bird! Sculptural animal art can sit on floors, tables or mantels, and can be made from a variety of materials including metal, ceramic, stone or Lucite. Especially popular in home design today are Japanese and Chinese painted screens. These can be hung on a wall or used functionally as a partial room divider. Take a walk on the wild side by adding a touch of animal prints to your home! Decorating in Shades of Gray

Gray is a versatile and sensuous color to include in your home decor.

In addition to so many variations in gray colors, gray can come in varying intensities too, from the lightest dove gray to dark steel gray. And don’t just think of gray as a solid, smooth color when you use it in design. Part of the beauty of gray is in its texture; think wood grain in flooring and furniture, texture in tweed or silk fabrics, and matte or lacquer finish in paint. Gray is subtle and goes well with a lot of colors, letting the other hues get all the attention. Think French blue, pink, gold, black, brown and white for accent colors. For the most part, gray is a peaceful color that adds serenity to an interior environment. However, gray can be edgy and avant garde, like when it’s used for concrete flooring or countertops. Many elements in your home lend themselves to gray as a neutral. These include: - Wall paint - Tile and stone - Upholstery fabric - Window coverings - Rugs and carpeting As an accent color, use gray for throw pillows, table linens, lamps, artwork, bed coverings and more. Thinking of adding gray in your home? Contact us for a design consultation.  Interior Motrives and more... 11179 Dundee Road Huntley, Illinois 60142 847-669-3941 www.interiormotiveshuntley,com
