Decorative Animal Accents

Animal accents bring the outdoors in.

And add an unexpected splash of interest. Very popular right now are leopard and zebra print rugs. Or go outside the box with a pattern that depicts antelope, cheetah, tiger or giraffe. Animal print rugs are especially effective in small spaces, such as stairways, powder rooms or foyers – and these small rooms are a good place to start if you’re feeling nervous about adding a large amount of animal accents to your home. And you can even buy animal print rugs in colors that aren’t realistic at all, such as a magenta and black striped zebra rug! Animal wall art includes: - the famous Audubon prints or similar etchings or block prints of birds and animals - photographs of animals that you take yourself or purchase - even a painted stencil border that shows birds in flight or animals walking. For sculptural animal art, think a decorative bird cage, that can be empty, filled with plants or even housing a live bird! Sculptural animal art can sit on floors, tables or mantels, and can be made from a variety of materials including metal, ceramic, stone or Lucite. Especially popular in home design today are Japanese and Chinese painted screens. These can be hung on a wall or used functionally as a partial room divider. Take a walk on the wild side by adding a touch of animal prints to your home! Decorating with Rustic Wood

Rustic wood creates a feeling of comfort and tradition in today's fast-paced world.

Wood is a natural and beautiful design element. Since rustic wood is all about the rough feel, keep texture in mind when you select your other home furnishings. A nubby, rough texture like linen complements rustic wood or use a smooth texture like silk as a contrast. Other home fashions that go well with rustic wood include cowhide rugs, Southwestern carpets, leather upholstery and textured stone. Rustic wood looks fabulous with white or light beige as a neutral because the light, clean color brings out the beauty and grain of the wood. Effective accent colors include sage green and rusty red. Or pair rustic wood with a black and white color scheme to add drama. Consider the following elements for adding rustic wood to your home: - Coffee tables, end tables and dining tables - Flooring - Lamps and artwork - One wall or a sliding door taken from an old industrial building - Bookshelves - Kitchen or bathroom cabinets - Bed frames - Fireplace mantels or surrounds - Wood beams in the ceiling or the ceiling itself If you like texture, nature and a warm, earthy look, decorating with rustic wood may be just the style for you!

Silhouette

The sun's rays are harmful all year long- just as you protect your skin from harmful UV rays, Silhouette shadings help protect home furnishings from fading. Draw a line by avoiding tan lines on your fine furnishings. Call 847-669-3941 to learn more today!
