Add an Exotic Decor Element

You'll seldom see your hand-crafted exotic item in someone else's house! An exotic element adds to the individuality of your home, especially if you brought the piece back from a special trip. Most people consider the following as exotic elements to add to their home décor: - Indian or East Asian fabrics - Moroccan or Indonesian end tables and lanterns - Latin American dining tables - Japanese ceramic stools - Polynesian sculptures - African masks and wall art - Asian stone sculptures - Exotic woods with dramatic grains and textures - Carpets and artifacts from the Southwest U.S. - Tiles from almost any country - Rugs from Turkey, Kashmir, Iran and so many other countries - Even tropical plants and flowers Even in minimalist décor, one or two touches of the exotic can stand out; actually they’ll stand out even more than in a cluttered room. And even if the pieces are exotic and special, they can be in neutral colors that keep the zen feeling going strong. Personalize your decor with an exotic element or two this year. It’s a conversation starter that will add energy to your home.  Interior Motives and more... 11179 Dundee Road Huntley, Illinois 60142 847-669-3941 www.interiormotiveshuntley.com

Decorating in Red, White and Blue

Red, white and blue works well all year round.
Red, white and blue works well all year round. - Huntley IL

It's a versatile color scheme that works for every season.
Your red, white and blue design can evoke the “stars and stripes” with lots of flag imagery and patriotic motifs. Or you can work with the colors in solids only, or with other patterns, such as polka dots, plaid and chevrons.

Red, white and blue decorating is not just for a child’s bedroom; it works well in many decorating styles, particularly if you live near the beach, are decorating with a nautical theme or have lots of outdoor space to fill with patio furniture and outdoor-living elements. Red, white and blue works well in vintage décor that’s filled with details and is equally effective in a minimalist zen design for a calm, tranquil feel.

Elements to consider in these striking colors include:

- An accent wall painted in bold red or blue
- Vintage or reproduction fabrics, throws, pillows and table linens
- Folk art pieces with a flag motif
- Antiques, including real flags and distressed wood or metal furniture
- Quilts and bedding
- Wallcoverings
- Rugs and flooring

Think red, white and blue for a change in your home environment. It’s a look that will last throughout the year.
